What is Bridge? According to the Oxford English Dictionary, Bridge is the English pronunciation of a game called 'Biritch', which was also known as Russian Whist.
Forms of Bridge in many variants have been played for centuries. The modern game largely emerged following rule changes proposed by Harold Vanderbilt in 1925, which were designed to make the game more challenging, interesting and balanced.
